Dried Figs
Ficus carica
Dried figs from the Sarılop (Smyrna) variety of the Aydın basin. Available in natural, lerida and butterfly forms, with size grading.
Türkiye leads world dried fig exports; the main growing area is the Germencik, İncirliova and Nazilli districts of Aydın. The region's Sarılop variety, with its thin skin and high sugar content, is regarded as the fig type best suited to drying; the Aydın fig carries geographical indication protection.
Natural form is graded as dried. In lerida form the fig is flattened into an even round shape, preferred for gift and retail packs where appearance matters. Butterfly form is the fig opened in two, generally used filled.
